One Bangkok, the largest integrated development in Bangkok’s central business district, has formed a partnership with The Concrete Products and Aggregate Co Ltd (CPAC) to elevate Thailand’s construction industry to a higher level by operating the CPAC EV mixer truck at the construction site. This is believed to be the first of such initiative in the country.
The companies said they seek to “promote green construction and transport the concrete with clean energy innovation to comply with the green fleet policy.” This collaboration reiterates their strong commitment to “minimise environmental impact, tackle the climate change caused by the emissions of greenhouse gas and raise the bar on construction industry standards in Thailand to international level.”
Worawat Srisa-an, deputy CEO of One Bangkok, explained, “One Bangkok is the largest holistically integrated district in the heart of Bangkok, developed as a movement to evolve Bangkok. We aim to set new standards of sustainable construction in Thailand and be a part of the local community to build the better future. One Bangkok, SCG and CPAC are strategic partners who shared vision to create long-term value through sustainable construction practices using circular economy principles with an ambition to achieve ‘zero waste to landfill’ goals.
“We previously signed four different agreements with SCG to demonstrate circular economy principles, which are recycling lightweight concrete waste into Q-Con sound barrier used on the wall of the entrance tunnel, holistic construction waste management and turning food waste into fertiliser. The latest collaboration [on the use of] CPAC EV mixer truck at the site [is] to minimise the environmental impact, especially the construction dust, and to save energy.”
Nithi Patarachoke, president of SCG cement-building materials, further pointed out that CPAC, a manufacturer of ready-mix concrete and precast concrete products, has announced to forge ahead the green construction strategy by aiming to enhance the standard of the Thai construction to create sustainability and long-term growth. The company also focuses on environment, social and governance to comply with SCG’s ESG 4 Plus, which includes: 1). Aim for net zero, 2). Go green, 3). Lean approach to reduce inequality, and 4). Collaboration with fairness and transparency.
Due to its commitment to minimise the impact from PM 2.5 dust and the emissions of greenhouse gases, CPAC has introduced the CPAC EV mixer truck to transport concrete in line with the green fleet concept for the first time in the One Bangkok development.
“To emphasise the green construction strategy and our social and environmental responsibility, we have cooperated with One Bangkok to launch CPAC EV mixer truck to transport concrete at the One Bangkok site,” said Mr Patarachoke. “We’ve shared the same vision and planned the development together. CPAC has been involved with the initial stage and used CPAC low-heat concrete, which emits low carbon, in the process of laying the building’s mat foundation. It’s our great honour to join this project and hope that our cooperation with One Bangkok will continue shaping the industry into the green construction in the future.”
“CPAC EV mixer truck is the first step to move towards the carbon neutrality and net-zero emissions by 2050 per our goal,” continued Mr Patarachoke. “To replace diesel fuel, it is powered by electricity, which is considered a clean energy. If we compare them, the electric-powered mixer truck can reduce the amount of dust PM 2.5 and PM 10 up to 45 grams per trip and cut down the greenhouse gas emissions up to 26.5 t of carbon dioxide per year per vehicle, equivalent to grow 2,800 trees per year per vehicle.”
He added, “CPAC always gives importance to the society and the environment through its value chain, such as operating the cement production plant with the waste heat power generator, and using the electric-based forklift for the internal transport. We also produce low-carbon concrete as well as develop cement to reduce carbon emissions; for example, we make hydraulic cement to replace the Portland cement.”
According to One Bangkok and CPAC, when comparing the electric-powered mixer truck with the diesel mixer truck, it has been discovered that 1,800 trips per one CPAC EV mixer truck can reduce greenhouse gas emissions up to 49,000 kg of CO2, equivalent to planting 5,210 trees.
Upon completion, One Bangkok will have a mix of commercial, residential, retail and recreational uses. These include five premium Grade A office towers, four distinct retail precincts, five luxury and lifestyle hotels and three luxury residential towers designed with people-centric, sustainable and smart city living concepts.
