PT Rekayasa Industri (Rekind) has completed the first phase of Muara Laboh geothermal power plant in West Sumatra, Indonesia. This 85 MW facility has been developed by PT Supreme Energy Muara Laboh (SEML) - a joint venture between PT Supreme Energy, ENGIE and Sumitomo Corporation.

The electricity from the power plant, which is located in Solok Selatan Regency, will be supplied to the Sumatra grid owned by PT PLN (Persero). It can be distributed to approximately 340,000 households, said Rekind.

“Rekind’s scope of work in Muara Laboh project is quite extensive because it includes the construction of the well pad and road access that is carried out simultaneously with the construction of a geothermal power plant and steam gathering system,” said Yanuar Budinorman, president director of Rekind. “All of this is done independently by Rekind’s best assets. We can also complete this project in accordance with the targets set by the stakeholders. Obviously, this is a proud achievement.”

Muara Laboh geothermal plant is reportedly part of the national strategic project implementation programme, associated with the 35,000 MW power plant acceleration project. It is said to be the first power plant in West Sumatra that utilises new and renewable energy. 

Rekind is an Indonesia-based EPCC (engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning) company, which has been involved in the geothermal industry for over 38 years. It has succeeded in building 16 geothermal power plants across the country.

A subsidiary of PT Pupuk Indonesia, Rekind is currently working on the construction of Rantau Dedap geothermal power plant project with a capacity of 98.4 MW (two units), owned by PT Supreme Energy Rantau Dedap (SERD). Rekind has won the EPCC package, including the steam gathering system, well pad and road access. The project is located in Muara Enim Regency, Lahat Regency and Kota Pagar Alam, South Sumatra.
