Brokk has unveiled the new Brokk 900, believed to be the world’s largest and most powerful demolition robot, meeting the extreme requirements of the toughest hard rock underground work. This new unit builds upon and improves on the success of its predecessor, the Brokk 800, which was introduced 10 years ago.
The new demolition robot is a big step up from the earlier model in many ways, explained Brokk. “The design and engineering of the machine has been reinforced, the power is increased, its operation even more precise, and the new breaker is more powerful. And all this with almost no increase in size and weight.”
Brokk highlighted that using Brokk SmartPower technology to improve the powertrain, the new Brokk 900 delivers a 25% increase in output power. “At the same time, reliability and machine uptime meet the new industry benchmark for demolition robots set by the introduction of Brokk SmartPower a few years ago.”
The Brokk 900 comes in two different models: the standard Brokk 900 with the heaviest and most powerful breaker, and the Brokk 900 Rotoboom with a high-precision rotating boom system.
The standard Brokk 900 provides the option of two hydraulic breakers, both of which are more powerful than the breaker on the predecessor Brokk 800.
The BHB 1500 is a 1,500 kg breaker designed for really hard rock. “Paired with the hydraulic power of the Brokk 900, it delivers a phenomenal punch in each blow,” said Brokk.
The BHB 1300 is a lighter breaker for maximum productivity in heavy concrete demolition. “When not breaking tough granite rock, the higher blow frequency and more nimble size of this breaker will maximise the production rate.”
Brokk added that, as with all its demolition robots, changing between the breakers is also possible to ensure that users always have the right attachment for the job.
The Brokk 900 Rotoboom is designed for maximum flexibility in applications where access and precision are important. The unit features a 360-degree continuous boom rotation with smooth movements for excellent precision. In addition, the unit is heat protected for red-hot refractory work in metal plants, and it is fitted with Brokk’s heat-shielded hydraulic breaker.
The Brokk 900 models are available with either electric or diesel powertrain. “The electric motor is the obvious choice for both lowest cost of operation and most environmentally friendly,” said Brokk. The new diesel engine meets the US EPA Tier 4 Final standards as well as the EU Stage V standards. Brokk further mentioned that a Tier 3 engine is also being offered as an alternative.
Finally, serviceability has been enhanced for the new Brokk 900. Even though the machine is big, weighing in over 11 t, it is designed to be serviced by one person, and there is no need for heavy lifting, said the company.
“All in all, the new Brokk 900 represents what we are known for. More power in a compact and smart package. And that stays true even for our biggest demolition robot,” said Martin Krupicka, CEO of Brokk.
According to Brokk, the delivery of the new Brokk 900 will start at the end of the second quarter of 2021.
