Keppel South Central: A new landmark in Singapore’s CBD

Keppel Corporation has unveiled Keppel South Central, an all-new 33-storey commercial tower at the former site of Keppel Towers. Located in Tanjong Pagar, in the heart of Singapore’s central business district and within the Greater Southern Waterfront, the development will offer about 650,000 sq ft of technology-forward spaces – comprising Grade A offices, flexible workspaces, retail and event spaces, as well as a diverse range of indoor and outdoor amenities, including a social kitchen.

Designed by global architecture and design firm NBBJ, Keppel South Central is set to become another iconic building in Singapore that successfully marries distinctive architectural elements with energy-efficient design features. It is designed as a vertical park, with workspaces built in, and will feature a mix of alternative workspaces and amenities that seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor spaces. The project is slated to be completed in the last quarter of 2024.

Louis Lim, CEO of real estate division at Keppel, said, “We are excited to launch Keppel South Central, a next-generation smart and super low energy building designed for the talents of tomorrow. With its innovative, flexible and customer-centric urban space solutions, including round-the-clock facilities, Keppel South Central will enable people to work anywhere, anytime, in the way that they want, paving the way as the workplace of the future.

“Leveraging Keppel’s extensive experience in real estate, which includes sterling developments like the eco-icon Ocean Financial Centre, as well as Marina Bay Financial Centre, which pioneered the ‘live-work-play’ concept, we are confident that Keppel South Central will be yet another hallmark development and a flagship commercial tower in the Greater Southern Waterfront.”

Keppel South Central is a recipient of the BCA Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy Award for its innovative and green features. These consist of a high-performance facade system that will significantly reduce the amount of solar heat gain in the building, smart building management systems, rainwater harvesting systems, and the use of renewable energy.

When completed, Keppel South Central’s annual energy consumption, or EUI, is expected to be 110 kWh/sq m per year. According to Keppel, this would result in energy savings of over 40% or about 6.2 mil kWh a year compared to a code-compliant building and is equivalent to the amount of energy required to power about 1,300 homes in Singapore for one year. This also translates to cost savings of approximately S$1.8 million annually. Annual water savings is expected to be at about 26,000 cu m, the amount required to fill 10 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Keppel South Central will have a double-storey rooftop restaurant and bar, plus over 60,000 sq ft of shared amenities dedicated to collaboration, social activities, health and wellness, as well as for family and even pets, said Keppel. These include an indoor gymnasium, outdoor fitness decks, a swimming pool, sleeping rooms, nursing rooms, event spaces and facilities for learning.

To ensure round-the-clock efficiency, the building will be 5G enabled and fitted with leading-edge technologies, such as facial recognition access, and also smart lighting and micro-zoned air conditioning systems in designated areas that cater for 24/7 business operations.
