Singapore’s International Built Environment Week 2024 to drive innovation, sustainability and collaboration

The International Built Environment Week (IBEW) is returning on 4-6 September 2024 at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore. Organised by BCA International, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), and in partnership with RX Singapore, the event will bring together industry leaders, professionals and innovators from around the world.

This year’s IBEW theme, ‘Solving For Tomorrow, Today,’ emphasises the urgency for the industry to adopt an action-oriented mindset. The conference will spotlight leaders in technology innovation and sustainability, which are crucial to the key transformation areas within the refreshed Built Environment Industry Transformation Map (BE ITM) 2025.

Desmond Lee, Singapore’s Minister for National Development and Minister-in-charge of Social Services Integration, will open IBEW 2024 on 4 September. Per previous years, its anchor event will be the IBEW Conference – where delegates will have the opportunity to attend keynote presentations, panel discussions and sessions that explore how the built environment industry can pave the way for a sustainable and resilient future to tackle the pressing challenges of today’s world.

The IBEW Conference will feature a line-up of international and local industry thought leaders and progressive firms. Among them, the CEO and managing director of Goldbeck GmbH will deliver the opening keynote and set the stage for discussions on pioneering strategies and technologies shaping the future of the built environment. This is followed by presentations from industry leaders including Andy Rahden, VP of solutions engineering at Bentley Systems, and Khalil Shaiful, SVP of group technology at Boustead Singapore. These sessions will discuss the cutting- edge approaches and technologies contributing to sustainability and innovation in the built environment.

Other key highlights at IBEW 2024 include:

BCA Awards (6 September): These awards aim to recognise the recipients’ high standards in pushing industry transformation through digitalisation, productivity, quality, design and engineering excellence. This year introduces two new awards: Company of the Year and Project of the Year. Indranee Thurai Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Finance and Second Minister for National Development, will grace the event and present the awards. During the Future Talent Programme, the award for the International Building Design competition will also be announced.

CEOs in Conversation (6 September): Themed ‘Accelerating Decarbonisation by Creating Value,’ this session will convene senior leaders from across the built environment sector. Ravi Menon, Singapore’s first ambassador for climate action and senior adviser for the National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS) and former managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), will deliver the opening remarks.

BEX Asia (4 to 6 September): Showcasing over 150 brands and attracting more than 7,000 attendees from 52 countries and regions in 2023, this year’s BEX Asia will continue to feature market-ready and innovative solutions. Attendees can also look forward to ConTech Exchange, a start-up pavilion and a robotics zone at the trade show.

ConTech Summit (4 September): This inaugural invite-only event will bring together investors, innovators and corporates, while spotlighting emerging ConTech start-ups – accelerating their growth through increased deal flow and commercial opportunities. Attendees can explore cutting-edge technologies, form valuable partnerships and gain insights from regional experts.

The summit features a start-up showcase, setting the stage for the evening’s pitches, complemented by keynote presentations and a panel discussion on ‘The Future of ConTech in the Region.’ The event will conclude with the IBEW industry networking night, fostering connections with venture capital and corporate venture capital firms to leverage their networks and expertise in identifying new solution leads.

Learning Journeys (6 September): Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the sites of exemplary projects in Singapore that put advanced construction, adaptive reuse, robotics and artificial intelligence into practice. They will gain first-hand experiences to understand how innovative solutions work in practical situations.
